SUMMARY

How to develop a writing workshop with people who do not speak the language in which it is taught? This was the question that constantly guided the implementation of the drama and theater writing workshop in the city of Albi, France. As the workshop leaders met participants who did not share a common language, the workshop had to adapt to accommodate each of the participants. Writing was then consolidated as a form of hospitality for the participants and the workshop had to mutate and transform itself to allow each of them to participate according to their time and communication needs. This notion of expanded writing allowed the workshop space to develop writing actions from other forms that did not necessarily involve language, such as drawing, soundscape, movement or body gestures.
