SUMMARY

This article analyzes the process of creating the observation scale Habilidades de Comunicación y Expresión Corporal (HCEC). Unlike the self-completed questionnaires, this scale was designed to be filled out by a researcher who evaluates, through the observation of an audiovisual record, the communication and expression through bodily action of each of the participants in a live arts workshop. A preliminary version of this scale was subjected to a validation process by experts who, although they recommended adjustments, concluded that both the general statement and that of each of its items are clear at the linguistic level and that these statements allow understanding with
precision the type of body and gestural action to be observed and evaluated. Also, a pilot test was conducted during two performing arts workshops held in the city of Toulouse between September and October 2021 as part of the TransMigrARTS project. In this test, the preliminary scale showed that it has a good discriminatory capacity to determine the changes that take place in communication and body expression before and after an artistic workshop. Thus, the HCEC scale constitutes a valuable instrument for the evaluation of the changes in communication and body expression promoted by the living arts workshops among the migrant population.
